More good news is coming to the Panhandle regarding wind energy. The 2010 Wind Expo started Sunday night and already our area is making some noise.

So far, two big announcements about new wind energy projects coming our way.

Texas A&M and the Alternative Energy Institute have announced they will put up the nation's largest wind trubine at West Texas A&M for ongoing research.

Texas Tech is also joining the wind band wagon. The university has partnered with Alstom on a new wind project that Alstom says it's excited about and should be beneficial to both parties.

Pronews 7 spoke with AJ Swope from Class 4 Winds. He is at the conference and he says that the Panhandle is well represented by multiple businesses, and the EDC's from many cities, including Amarillo.

Swope says the Panhandle is turning the heads of many wind businesses at the conference, and think the winds are changing for our area.

"We've got a lot of potential in the Panhandle and there are a lot of people that understand that and want to capitalize on that. It's going to be an incredible decade ahead of us and I think we're seeing the very beginning of that."

Pronews 7 has also heard there may be a couple of big announcements at Tuesday's conference as well. So stay tuned to Pronews 7 and connectamarillo.com for those developments.
