AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Construction on Bell has been causing delays for months now and starting on Thursday several more lanes will be closed.

The construction on Bell is for a water main abandonment project. The road work will begin at the intersection of Bell and I-40 South Frontage Road with the following lane closures to begin Thursday morning through Saturday afternoon.

Bell Street:

North bound: One lane closed
South bound: One lane closed
I-40 South Frontage Road: East bound: One lane closed

The abandonment of this water main is a part of the project to complete the replacement of a 1-mile long section of 12" water main in south Bell from I-40 south to SW 34th. The project will increase reliability of the water main segment and will minimize future repairs on this segment.

The City says access to businesses in the area will be available, and they will make every effort to minimize the impact of the closures.
