CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - The Corpus Christi area is getting a state veterans cemetery.

Groundbreaking is planned Wednesday for the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.

Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, who also chairs the Texas Veterans Land Board, says the cemetery will be a superb final resting place for the state's veterans.

The 54-acre site was donated by Flint Hills Resources and offered by Nueces County. Construction is expected to take about 18 months, funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Other Texas State Veterans Cemeteries are in Killeen, Mission and Abilene.

Department of Veterans Affairs national cemeteries are in San Antonio, Houston, El Paso and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. ---
