AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An Amarillo man is behind bars accused of breaking into a local business early Thursday morning.
Police say an employee of Casey Carpet One on South Georgia arrived at work around 3:50 a.m. and noticed a computer missing from his office, and a trash can full of other office equipment sitting by the side door, that was unlocked. The employee backed out and called the police.
Police completed their investigation, and set up nearby in case the burglar came back.
Around 6:00 a.m. 36-year-old Justin Jeff Johnson pulled up and opened the door to the business, something apparently spooked him and he jumped back in his car and took off. The officers initiated the chase with the suspect vehicle. The chase ended with the suspect jumping out of the car and running on foot. The officer chased him on foot, deployed a taser on him and arrested him near Douglas and Fannin.
Johnson was booked into the Randall County Jail on charges of burglary of a building, evading arrest with a motor vehicle, evading arrest or detention, and an outstanding parole violation warrant with the original charge of Robbery.
