AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Saturday morning more than 300 cyclists strapped on helmets for the Bike MS 2010. At this year's starting line, a moment of silence was observed in honor of longtime bike MS cyclist and planning committee member Cindy Whitney.
Cindy was killed in a cycling accident last weekend. Cindy's daughter, Kristen, lead the group as they begin their trek from Amarillo to Canadian to raise money to rid the world of multiple sclerosis.
"We have about twice the number that we should statistically expect for this rural of an area, so uh, because we have such a large population of people living with MS, uh, it's even more important that we get together and have these events," said April Brownlee, from the MS Society.
Last year the bike ride raised $117,000 to help more than 800 hundred people living with MS in our area.
