Amarillo pet food company expands recall

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The following recalls have been announced:
Merrick Pet Care Inc. has expanded its recall of dog treats that may be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella can affect animals, and people who handle contaminated pet food can become infected with salmonella, especially if they haven't thoroughly washed their hands. No illnesses have been reported in people or pets, according to the Amarillo, Texas, company. The newly recalled Beef Filet Squares, also sold as Texas Hold 'Ems, were sold in 10-ounce plastic bags marked with the best by date of May 6, 2012, and the lot number 10127. About 7,600 cantilever patio umbrellas with solar lights, manufactured in China and imported by Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. of Union, N.J., because a plastic connector can break and allow the umbrella to collapse. The company has received 21 reports of umbrellas collapsing, including three reports of injuries. The umbrellas were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond stores and online through the company's websites between February and June. Details: online at CPSC.
About 405 Madeline bunk beds, manufactured in Vietnam and imported by Pottery Barn Kids, a division of Williams-Sonoma Inc. of San Francisco, because the shape of the end boards could pose an entrapment hazard. No incidents have been reported. The beds were sold at Pottery Barn Kids stores, as well as through the company's catalog and on its website, between July 2009 and March 2010.
