GROOM, TEXAS -- Festivities kicked-off last night for 'Groom Day' in Groom, Texas with fireworks and an all-night softball tournament. Residents have been preparing all week to get ready for what they call their homecoming, which always falls on the first Saturday of August.
Some of the events activities include various vending booths, a ranch rodeo, plenty of games for the kids, and of course, barbeque. While the event may seem like all fun and games, theres actually a purpose behind it all.
One of the organizers of the event, Karen Brown, said, "It brings everybody back and there's a lot of people that come from way away just because their family is connected in some way and then they love it. They just come back and it, it makes it a lot of fun cause we meet all kinds of people that way."
Brown says the town of groom prepares in advance for around 2,000 residents and visitors to attend. The celebration will come to an end Saturday night with a concert at 8:00 p.m. with the Tommy Gallagher Band.
