Hundreds of people have been sickened in a salmonella outbreak linked to eggs and currently extends to four states. Health officials on Wednesday expanded the recall from 228 million to 380 million eggs. That's almost 32 million cartons. Those eggs came from the Wright County egg distributor in Iowa and have been distributed nationwide since May.
The recall affects eggs sold under the following brands: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, and Kemp.
Here in Amarillo, Wal-Mart, United, Braum's, and Albertson eggs are all safe from the recall. We spoke with all those stores Wednesday, and Albertson's officials said the only stores affected are in the South California and Colorado areas.
The suspect cartons are stamped with the plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946. The numbers are preceded by the letter "P."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is working with state health departments to investigate the illnesses. No deaths have been reported. ABC News reported that the owner of the farm in Iowa has paid millions in fines for violations at other operations.
