AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Tax free weekend here in Texas kicked off today. Some parents may still have questions as to what items are covered and what's not. Below is a brief description of clothing that is included, and for a list of school supplies and a more detailed description of the clothing items click the link below.

As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing and footwear priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

Backpacks under $100 and used by elementary and secondary students are also exempt. That includes backpacks with wheels, if they can also be worn on the back, and messenger bags. The exemption doesn't include items that are defined as luggage, such as briefcases, athletic/duffel bags, computer bags, purses or framed backpacks.
