AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A unloaded handgun was found Thursday inside a locker at Canyon Junior High. Right now, Police say the student responsible is at the Youth Center for the High Plains. Canyon ISD officials and police say the gun was found after schools hours yesterday. The locker they found it in belongs to a 14 year old who's an 8th grader at the Junior High. Canyon Police say the handgun was never shown and no one was ever threatened. They say it could take some time to find out how the student got a hold of the gun and who the owner is. CISD officials would not talk with us on camera, but did say they sent a letter home with students Friday. But one parent Pronews 7 spoke with says that's not enough.

"I would like more information when something like this does happen so I can talk to my children more and talk to the school administrators more and make sure that my kids are safe and secure when they come to school everyday.", says Aubrey Garrett, a concerned parent.

Again, CISD officials denied our request for an interview. But they did say they did everything possible to ensure the safety of the students, and they do take the matter seriously. Canyon Police are still investigating. We'll bring you updates as we get them.
