Okla. to replace truck weigh stations at borders

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Transportation Commission has awarded a contract for the first of nine Port of Entry Stations that will replace six weigh stations in the state.

The new stations will be built along interstates and roadways at the state's borders to inspect tractor-trailer rigs entering the state.

The commission on Monday awarded a $7.5 million contract to build the first station along Interstate 35 in Kay County about two miles south of the Oklahoma-Kansas state line.

Other stations will be built during the next several years. Ones along Interstate 40 in Beckham and Sequoyah counties are expected to go to bid by next spring.

The stations will be staffed by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and will include facilities for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
