AMARILLO, TX -- October is not only the month for Halloween, but it's also the month dedicated to domestic violence awareness.
Several people came to the Family Support Services building in downtown Amarillo to take a stand against violence.
Compared to last year there has been an increase in deaths in our area linked to domestic abuse, and one official says that domestic violence is more common then we may think and that help is just a phone call away.
"A lot of people that are caught up in that situation don't know where to go, where to turn, and being in that type of relationship with somebody that hey care about and love it's real hard sometimes to know that this is not ok, and they keep hoping it's going to get better. So we want people to know that it's not -- it's a crime and they don't have to live that way and there's a lot of help available," said Janet Byars, Family Support Services Executive Director.
Byars says there were at least sixty people in the march and she hopes there will be more support for next year's march.
