Traffic stops lead to 3 arrests in Carson County

CARSON CO., TEXAS -- Two separate traffic stops along I-40 last week sent three people to jail.

The first happened last Thursday afternoon. Troopers in Carson County stopped a car for failure to signal a lane change in Conway.

During the stop, the trooper was given consent to search the vehicle. The search uncovered 9 bundles of U.S. Currency located inside a false compartment in the rear seat area. The currency totaled $90,560 and originated in Nashville, Tennessee and was destined for Mexico.

The driver, Marco Solorzano, 39, of San Diego, California was arrested and booked into the Carson County jail for money laundering.

Again in Carson County, troopers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Saturday. During the stop the trooper smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted, and 22 pounds of hydroponic marijuana was found in the trunk. The pot is valued at $77,000 and troopers said it originated in Sacramento, California and was destined for Mobile, Alabama.

The driver, Iris R. Douglas, 28, and her passenger Donnell L. Spanks, 36, both of Fairhope, Alabama were arrested and booked into the Carson County jail for possession of marijuana a 3rd degree felony punishable by 2-10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
