DUMAS, TEXAS -- A man who was known to break into rural homes in Moore County will spend the next 90 years in jail. David Robert Sandoval, 38, was found guilty of burglary of a habitation. He was arrested back in February of this year after stolen property was found in his possession.

According to the 69th District Attorney's office, Sandoval has been convicted in the state of Colorado and in Hartley County on similar charges. He also has three other convictions for misdemeanor auto burglary.

Sandoval was tried under Texas' habitual offender statue, which is basically Texas' 3 strike rule, which allows a jury to sentence a person who has two previous felony convictions between 25 years and life in prison.

It took the jury only 30 minutes to return the guilty verdict and just over an hour for the punishment phase.

Sandoval said he plans to appeal the verdict. He will be eligible for parole in about 22 years.
