AMARILLO, TEXAS (AP) -- U.S Representative Mac Thornberry will continue his position as District 13 Representative.

With 87.08 percent (109,218 votes) Republican incumbant Thornberry beat out Libertarian opponent John Burwell with 4.33 percent (5,439 votes), and Independent Keith Dyer's 8.57 percent ( 10,756 votes).

Thornberry said he's looking forward to getting back to work in Washington.

Libertarian candidate John Burwell, said it's been a good race.

"It's good validation to start, I had a pretty good showing for how little campaign money I had, and how little campaigning I was able to do. I plan on running next time."

Independent candidate Keith Dyer was declared ineligible by the Secretary of State to run in this election because he voted in the Republican Primary. However, if Dyer had gained enough votes to win, a special election would have been called. Allowing Dyer and other candidates to file for that race.

More than a dozen Republican congressmen were easily re-elected Tuesday night, including U.S. Reps. Pete Sessions, Ralph Hall, Randy Neugebauer, Louie Gohmert, Sam Johnson, Jeb Hensarling, Michael Burgess, John Culberson, Kevin Brady, Kenny Marchant, John Carter, Ted Poe, Ron Paul, Pete Olson, Mike Conaway and Kay Granger have won re-election. Democrats Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Green also were re-elected.
