Avoid travel in Amarillo

Travel along I-40 and I-27 is exteremely dangerous and several intersections are impassible.
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Update:
The Amarillo Police Department has issued a traffic Message on Thursday November 11, 2010 10:29 PM CST
They say to avoid travel in Amarillo. Several roads are impassable. The Emergency Operation Center for the City of Amarillo is requesting drivers to stay off roadways unless it's an emergency situation. Travel along I-40 and I-27 is extremely dangerous and several intersections are impassible. Several major streets in town are also flooded, like 3rd street and 10th street under the railroad tracks. Avoid travel as much as possible. If water is covering the roadway, TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN.

Due to the heavy rainfall, the Amarillo Police Department has blocked traffic on Thursday night.
Around 9:30 p.m. the northbound interchange was shutting down. 3rd & Adams is under water. We're also hearing reports of 34th and the Canyon E-way being flooded. APD is also moving traffic off of Paramount near 1-40. Police are diverting traffic from 1-40 & Washington.
Near 58th & Georgia the water is waist deep and there's a resemblance of a river on Georgia St.
The Georgia St. exit on 1-27 is blocked because of high water rescues and stranded motorists. If you see heavy rainfall while driving, move to higher ground. Storm Search 7 Chief Meteorologist Steve Kersh said Amarillo normally sees 68 hundredths in the whole month of November. Amarillo saw that amount fall in 10 minutes.
At the station we saw just less than 2.5 inches of rainfall since 7:15 p.m.
Wes Reeves from Xcel Energy said it's working on 20 to 30 outages scattered across town affecting 200 to 300 customers. It's mostly from blown line fuses caused by lightning.
