AMARILLO, TX -- Amarillo will be the new home to a new transitional counseling treatment center, and it's the only one of its kind in our area.
It's for people recovering from substance abuse and those leaving the prison system.
The center will consist of an outpatient and inpatient center.
The inpatient center will house 22 women and 37 men , and will include a 90 day program that focuses on counseling.
The program is designed to pick up where other places have left off.
"In the past what has happened is the people have been let out of the prison, and then that's it there's nothing else -- no support. So, what we're doing is trying to help them get back into society and to get readjusted to society," said Steve Warren,Amarillo Transitional Counseling Treatment Center Program Director.
After they complete the in-patient program they're directed to out-patient treatment to continue to insure success.
The inpatient facility sits on 14 acres of land in southeast Amarillo.
The program is expected to get an official okay to begin accepting people and administering treatment within the next 3 weeks.
The program is accepting all referrals and will have funding for indigent, self-pay, Medicaid, and ATR as well as other programs.
