RED RIVER, N.M. (AP) - After a summer spent making improvements on the mountain, officials at Red River Ski Area say they plan to open Wednesday.
As of early in the week, the resort had a 16-inch base.
Last summer, crews installed new automated snow guns in selected areas of the mountain to ensure that coverage of terrain happens early in the season. There's also a new surface lift on the learning hill and an extension of the Hollywood terrain park.
Red River's deputy general manger, Walt Foley, says the resort has been making snow since Oct. 30, aided by really cold nights and a standout crew.
Santa Fe ski area won't open until Dec. 10
