Woman seriously hurt in hit and run

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- UPDATE:  The Traffic Investigations Unit has information that the victim's injuries, though serious, are not life threatening.

A woman has life threatening injuries after she was hit by a car early Saturday morning.

The accident happened in the 2500 block of east I-40, that's when witnesses said a Mercury 4-door vehicle hit a woman in front of a motel.

The driver reportedly stopped, picked up the woman, threw her into the back of the car, and fled the scene. Police caught up with the suspect in the area of Amarillo Boulevard and Fillmore, but he fled abandoning the car in the 1600 block of NW 9th.

Carl Evans, 39, was caught after a short foot chase and booked into jail for evading police.

The victim, Valerie Foster, 23, was air lifted to a Lubbock hospital with life threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
