AMARILLO, TEXAS -- As Santa Claus gears up for the holiday season, his helper elf in Amarillo is doing her part to help kids in the area.
Eveline Rivers and all of her helpers are working hard on the 32nd year of herĀ Christmas Project, a project that gives hundreds of toys and items to needy kids every year.
"It's always fun we feel blessed, I wished the project didn't exist, because we want all families to be in good financial condition, but if it's not going to happen that way then were glad we're here to help," said Rivers.
Volunteers have been working Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings, boxing, wrapping and labeling the thousands of gifts that will get delivered on December 11th.
"What a humbling experience it was to see everyone helping and watching the community of Amarillo working together to help those in need," said volunteer Monica Caperton.
After the gifts are packaged and ready to go, they still need to be delivered. Volunteers are needed to distribute the packages to the needy kids, so anyone interested in helping out is asked to come to the Eveline Rivers Christmas Workshop located at 314 S. Jefferson, at 9:00 a.m. On Saturday, December 11th.
