AMARILLO, TX -- The Bushland Independent School District will be asking its taxpayers to help contribute to a trust they call B.E.S.T.
B.E.S.T. stands for Bushland Education Scholarship Trust, and the purpose is to make sure every Bushland High School senior has a scholarship once he or she graduates.
"If we're going to be college ready then we need our students to be thinking that direction from the get go. We want them to be taking classes that are going to get them ready; they're going to be held accountable for that and if they're going to be held accountable we want to be able to contribute to their efforts by offering this scholarship," said Don Wood, Bushland ISD Superintendent.
Bushland High senior, Payton Lowe, tells us what some students maybe thinking once they leave high school.
"I bet they think that they maybe can't go to college because they don't have a scholarship or they don't have the money, but even if they get a little bit it may give them hope to go."
For Lowe herself, a little bit goes a long way.
"If I got even a little bit of a scholarship it would it make me think more about all my options. If I didn't have a scholarship I'd probably just settle for something, but if I had a scholarship I'd definitely think about going other places.
To get started, Bushland ISD will consider students who don't already have scholarships, and if the trust receives enough money then they will supply every senior with one regardless.
Bushland residents and businesses will soon be receiving a letter in the mail with more information.
