CANYON, TEXAS -- West Texas A&M University is lighting up the night sky with its annual "Carol of Lights," but this time there was no flipping of the switch.
Instead President J. Patrick O'Brien used his iPad to turn on the miles of Christmas lights around campus. Hundreds of students and community members held candles in the dark as they gathered to sing carols like "Joy to the World" and "Silent Night."
Toys For Tots was also on hand collecting toys for needy kids. It's an event that brings together music and the community, reminding everyone it's important to give back. "This is the beginning of the Christmas season and it really is something that is deeply rooted in us. This is part of our culture and tradition," said Dr. J. Patrick O'Brien, the WTAMU President
This is the 20th Annual WTAMU "Carol of Lights," and it's hosted by the Residence Hall Association.
