Police chase ends in wreck near I-40 and Georgia

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- UPDATE: A chase ended late this afternoon at the intersection of Georgia and Interstate-40 in Amarillo. The chase began when Armstrong County D.P.S. officer Joe Cannon tried to pull over a Ford Explorer for speeding.
Behind the wheel was Monty Joe Martin, a 46 year-old man from Caldwell, Texas. The pursuit of Martin continued from highway 287, then onto Interstate-40, then into a residential area.
Martin headed north and crossed Mirror Street, Grand Street, and the loop, with Armstrong, Carson, and Potter County D.P.S in pursuit on the ground and in the air, and they got assistance from A.P.D.
The chase came to an end at Georgia and Interstate-40 when Martin wrecked his vehicle. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Martin has been charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, and driving while intoxicated.
EARLIER: Amarillo Police are working a major accident on I-40 near Georgia.
It's being reported that the wreck could have been the result of a police chase that started in Armstrong County. Pronews 7 does have a crew at the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.
