2 thieves caught red handed

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Police arrested two men early Tuesday morning for cutting copper out of the air conditioning units. At 5:40 a.m., officers were called to the old Club Chaos at 2523 Britain. A pickup was parked in the alley behind the building with a door open. As police approached on foot, the two suspects took off running.
Gary Dale Tucker, 29, was immediately caught, while Steven Vaughn Geopfert, 20, doubled back and tried to make an escape. Geopfert, jumped into the pickup and took off. Unfortunately for him, his pickup died as he was trying to head south on S. Georgia, he was taken into custody.
Officers found that the two had been cutting copper out of the air conditioning units at the old bar. Both were interviewed by detectives, before being booked on various charges.
Tucker was arrested and booked for evading-on foot, possession of a prohibited weapon-which was a butterfly knife, theft under $20,000 of material aluminum, bronze, or copper which is a state jail felony. He also had an outstanding warrant for burglary, and 3 municipal court warrants.
Geopfert was booked on theft under $20,000 of materials, and evading in a motor vehicle.
