AMARILLO, TEXAS -- This year, Amarillo's Hispanic Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 25th birthday. As it does, it looks to its past, present, and future in this community. That perspective shows both progress and opportunity. The Hispanic community is continuing to grow and this banquet is proof. There are more business owners and larger fundraisers available for the community.
"Not only are we seeing retail and restaurants, we're also seeing doctors, new doctors, coming and new practices opening up. a good example of that is the care today clinic, they're on of the new ones and we're looking forward on working with them really soon," said Annette Asencio, the 2011 Chairman of the board.
They said it's all part of a plan to bridge the gap between the communities. "Some people may not realize that there is a gap, but there really is. Some people have not even ventured into Amarillo Boulevard or East Amarillo with those businesses. There are some very, very exciting things growing in that community, that money is untapped, the Amarillo community sometimes is not aware of the great products and services that are available," Dora Chavarria, Newly Appointed Executive Director.
They're hoping to educate folks about the businesses and create a community that caters to everyone. "My mission is that to get out there and be an advocate for the community," said Asencio. One of the chamber's business traditions is holding a social every month. It not only continues the fellowship, it also showcases a new chamber business.
