AMARILLO, TX -- Moving on up seems to be a phrase usually associated with something positive, but the recent rise in gas prices may not necessarily bring smiles to peoples faces.

With the regular, unleaded average gas prices sitting at $2.92 in Amarillo, we wondered what the almost 15 cent jump this month would mean to locals.

One mom says the rise in gas prices cuts down on the leisure time.

"I come into town when I have to -- when I have to work, when I have to take the kids to school, but no back and forth type of driving. I have to just get everything done all at once. I really would like to travel some, but that's almost out of the question," said Christa Griffin, Local Mom & RN.

For Jim Reed, a local small-business owner, the rise in gas prices has a trickle-down affect.

"We'll have to raise our prices eventually. I don't foresee it happening today or tomorrow, but in the next few weeks we won't have a choice. It's just a business decision that we have to live with," said Reed, Ebby's Edibles & Getables Owner.

And for one resident the current gas prices have him thinking about an investment in the future.

"I just don't think gas prices need to go up quite as high as they did. I could understand a little bit of cost influx, but it's way too high, way too much. My next car is going to be electric I guarantee you that," said Clark Wilkinson, Local Marketing Director.
