CLAUDE, TEXAS -- It's a program at Claude Independent School District that is encouraging students to keep up their grades and have excellent attendance. It's called, PRIDE Program and Pronews 7 is featuring it in this week's Region 16 Spotlight Education report.

"The students have an opportunity to earn each 6 weeks rewards, you know a t-shirt, something that simple that they love by having good grades by coming to school, by acting right, by doing the things we thought a long time ago that we forget we need to be rewarding kids for doing what's right,"said Toby Tucker, Claude ISD Superintendent.

The PRIDE Program is encouraging and rewarding students with t-shirts made possible with the generosity of the community. And where ever you go, teachers and students were them proudly. It's a program that students say makes a difference in their school and keeps them motivated.

"It's probably the most amazing thing ever came to Claude because, there's not a kid in this school who does not love the PRIDE program, it is the highlight of the 6 weeks," said Sara Levin, Senior at Claude HS.

"I really like it because most people when you leave you have tons of fun and when you don't get a t-shirt you'll really try harder next 6 weeks to get one," said Brock Beharnes, 5th grader.

But that's not all, the entire school system, K through 12th gather for an assembly full of fun and games where students eat a cookie without using their hands, and yes, even teachers get involved.

"We have games which is actually is more important then the shirts, because everyone loves the games and the fact is first we have about, you know, a kid from each grade that competes, but then sometimes the teachers get into it and they have to team up with the students and that is really exciting to watch," said Levin.

"We have prizes, we have t-shirts which of course is the big hit, we have brought in everything from the big bouncers to bucking bulls and it's bee a lot of fun. it really is, it's a 45 minute pep rally," said Tucker.

Again, the program is every 6 weeks, so after that period, students have another chance to qualify for PRIDE. To learn more click on the links provided.
