AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amarillo Independent School District has been invited to "show-off" their online educational technology in Austin.

The event is known as the Texas Capitol Schoolhouse, and the purpose is to show legislators what technology funding has done for Texas classrooms.

Educators say the technology not only aides kids now, but also prepares them for their future.

"We want to get our kids ready for life beyond high school. We want them to have a full experience in high school, but our mission really is to get them prepared for success beyond high school," said Jay Barrett, AISD Online School Principal.

Jeron Barrett, one of the students heading to Austin, says online classes allow students to set their own pace.

"Some kids might need extra time -- so now they can take extra time, some kids like to go a little bit faster -- they can get done a little bit faster. It's pretty good because you have all your work right there -- power points and worksheets. I like it."

Schoolhouse occurs every other year during the same time that our state legislators meet.

The event will take place this Monday, January 31, at the Capitol Rotunda.
