AMARILLO, TEXAS -- February kicks off the month of showing your love. So, Pronews 7 is reminding you to show your heart some love and get it checked. That's because February is American Heart Month.

Cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, are our nation's number one killer. To urge Americans to join the battle against these diseases, volunteers from the American Heart Association are visiting neighbors, educating them on heart disease and stroke.

And women listen up, heart disease is the number one killer of women in the U.S. today, and strokes are number three. According to the American Heart Association, 90% of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease.

So for the month of February the American Heart Association is asking that every Friday you wear red to show your support for the fight against heart disease.

There are several special events happening this month in our area to raise awareness.

Amarillo Go Red for Women Luncheon, will be Tuesday, February 15th at the Amarillo Civic Center.

Then in Pampa, on Saturday, February 26th the Annual Tri-County "Heart of Rock N' Roll Ball".
