Microphone stand mistaken for gun leads to lockdown

CANYON, TEXAS -- UPDATE 2:00: Canyon High School was placed on precautionary lockdown shortly after noon, when a student reported seeing another student carrying what appeared to be a firearm in the parking lot.
The Canyon Police Department was immediately notified, and a search of the building and parking lot was conducted.
Following an extensive search, it was confirmed that the object in question was in fact a microphone stand.
The lockdown lasted approximately 45 minutes and students resumed their regular class schedule.
Canyon ISD said that the safety of students and staff is of utmost importance and they appreciate students, staff, and parents reporting any unusual or suspicious activity.
UPDATE 1:20: We have learned that the lockdown has been lifted. We are waiting on a release from the school as to the reason behind the lockdown. We will report on that as soon as we get the information, so check back for additional details.
