AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Census numbers came in last week that show the Amarillo population is growing and one of the greatest increases is in the Hispanic community.

The 44 percent growth in the Hispanic community means a growth in other areas of the community according to one official.

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce says the growth in numbers means growth in more small businesses around town which helps stimulate our local economy...

Their executive director says it also means more Hispanics are getting educated.

"Those people are going out there and becoming educated and learning the language and they're now into the workforce applying their education they brought into our workforce and in turn returning that money to us to our own community," said Dora Chavarria, Hispanic chamber of Commerce Director.

Chavarria says we can expect the numbers to keep on increasing, and learning how to cater and market to everybody is pretty much vital.

"These numbers prove that if that market continues to go untapped, people that do not otherwise know about those products and services are going to suffer because everybody needs to cater to everybody especially with our current economy. I think we need to follow that growth and stay in tune with it

She says the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is willing to offer advice and their services to anybody who wants it.
