Get ready to lose an hour of sleep tonight. That's because Daylight Savings time starts at 2 a.m.

It's the time of year when daylight is around just a little longer. You must move your clocks forward one hour.

It was in 2005 when the Energy Policy Act changed the start and ending times of Daylight Savings Time. This year it ends on Nov. 6.

Some places do not observe the change, including Hawaii, most of Arizona, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Daylight Savings Time was originally created to help adjust with the change in sunlight hours associated with fall and spring.

It's also a time when you should check your smoke alarms. Fire officials advise that smoke alarm batteries should be changed every six months. Checking them at the start and end is an easy way to remember to do that.
