AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It wasn't the weather but a couple of kids with matches that started a fire that burned a detached garage in Amarillo Monday night.

No one was injured and the fire was quickly extinguished, but it's a prime example that we all need to do our part to prevent fires.

That includes teaching children about the dangers of playing with fire.

"Any little thing can get a large fire going like we saw just a couple of weeks ago. So its really important that everybody be really careful right now and especially with kids -- make sure that they don't have those matches, don't have those lighters and that they're supervised as well as possible," said Captain Wesley Hall, Amarillo Fire Department," said Captain Wesley Hall.

The firemen offers some helpful tips for parents -- teach your kids that matches and lighters are for adults, and if kids come across them to give them to a grown-up. Also, adults should do their part by keeping lighters and matches out of children's reach.
