HEMPHILL COUNTY, TEXAS -- A man driving a semi was killed early Monday morning southeast of Canadian, authorities said.

Richard Valdez, 27, of Wellington, was traveling eastbound on Farm Road 2124 in a 2008 Mack semi-trailer just after 6 a.m., police said. That's when authorities say his truck left the road and traveled into the north ditch.

Police said Valdez then over corrected, which caused the truck and trailed to nearly turn over and come to a stop on its side. Valdez was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Valez did not have his seatbelt on, police said.
