AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Concussion concerns for student athletes have seemingly become more prevelant in the last couple of years.

Prompting Senator Bob Deuell and Represenative Four Price to introduce legislation addressing the growing problem of traumatic brain injuries.

Deuell and Price join more than two dozen other state legislatures that have introduced legislation targeting youth sports related brain injuries.

But A.I.S.D. Athletic Director Brad Thiessen says this proposed bill is nothing new.

"To be honest it's real similar to what we're doing right now and it's real similar to what the uil asked us to do just last spring to implement starting next August.

Representive Price said in a statement, if a student athlete breaks a limb they receive proper and timely medical intervention.

Concussion brain injuries, deserve the same hightened concern and attention.

In short the proposed bill would require all student athletes who suffer any kind of head injury to being cleared by a doctor before returning to the play.
