HEREFORD, TEXAS -- Hereford Jr. High students are using green screens, animations, and other advanced technologies to make projects. They're gaining international recognition. The students are creating projects for this year's International Society for Technology in Education Conference. Pronews 7 is spotlighting their efforts in this week's Region 16 Spotlight Education report.
"Educators from around the world come to this. It's an exhibit style presentation and teachers actually ask them how they created that technology and so it gives them the power behind the technology that they use in the classroom," said Rhonda Curtsinger, Hereford ISD Teacher.
The ISTE Conference is held every year. This year it will be last week in June in Philadelphia. Hereford JHS students have participated for year. But this year, they're doing something different and creating 2 projects. One is called, "Chocolate, The Sweetest Technology Ever!" which tells the story of Milton Hershey. The other, "The Beef Capital of the World".
"They have the freedom to choose the technology that they would like to use. The one that they're interested in and just go crazy with it and create these phenomenal projects," said Curtsinger.
Students use state of the art technology to create animations, scenes with green screens, and much more.
"We get to use the multimedia that are all built into iLife suite, or we actually use Adobe Suite and we have other suites as well. So it's really the multimedia more. It's more movies, pictures, animation, audio, video and all that," said Joe Mendez, Technology Director.
"I didn't know much about iMovie until I joined the humanities group. It has a very good program, it's very easy editing. It's surprising how simple it is all the Mac programs like the iLife deal how they all work together its well put together," said Jacob Link, 8th Grader.
In a program given to educators attending the conference across the world, Hereford ISD's showcases are recommended sees. Meaning, they stand out above the rest.
