Even though my name is pretty common these days, when I was growing up it was actually quite unusual.

I use to scoured store shelves for personalized bows, pencils or mugs, and always came up empty.

Now, Kayla is everywhere, thanks in part to the character on Days of our Lives in the 1980's who introduced the name to the public.

Either way, I always liked my name. So I was surprised to find a blog pointing out the most hated baby names this year.

Every generation has their overused names. I can't tell you how many Jennifer's, Ashley's and Allison's I grew up with. But I don't think I would ever say I hated those names.

Author Laura Wattenburg did an informal survey for her blog, The Baby Name Wizard. She trolled message boards for conversations about baby names and surveyed mostly females under the age of 60. Wattehburg got more than 1,500 names and calculated which names appeared the most.

You can check out the list here.

As a parent, and more specifically a parent of a child who's name is on the list, I don't really care what they have to say. If my son grows up and decides to change his name to stand out more, that'll be his choice.

But I hope that he, like me, will one day learn to love the name he was given... Even if it's not a popular choice today.

What do you think about the list? Do you agree with the names or think it's a pointless survey?
