AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An 8-year-old child remains in a local hospital after he was struck by an SUV Thursday evening.

Amarillo Police say a white Ford Expedition, traveling north on the 700 block of Pittsburg allegedly struck a bicycle with an 8-year-old boy on it.

The boy, according to police, sustained head and body injuries. He was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Expedition, Maria Garcia, 27, was arrested for driving while license suspended and failure to provide proof of financial responsibility.

Police are continuing their investigation into this case.
