AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Those who were evacuated in Potter County were allowed to return home Monday morning to see what damage their homes sustained. Most of the damage happened in the North Westcliff and Tascosita areas.

It's a heartbreaking sight for anyone to see, but for some unfortunate neighbors or ours, they returned home to find nothing. All that's left are piles of smoking rubble, chimneys standing along, and shells of cars.

"Our biggest fear is kind of what you see behind us, that, you know, maybe that we just have the two chimneys. Until you see it, where you lived somewhere for 30 years it just is hard to believe it," said Wick Culp, home destroyed by fire.

Culp is not along, many homes were a complete loss. He says he has home insurance though, and while it's sad to see their memories reduced to a pile of ash, they're just lucky to have not lost their lives, or their pets.

"Luckily, we were not here when it occurred nor were our dogs they were with us also our cat was at our clinic," said Culp.

But for others, returning was a blessing. Crying tears of joy to see that firefighters were able to save their homes. That was the case for Pam Lary who lives in Stone Ridge off the loop and Soncy, where the fire started.

"The firemen were here protecting our homes. I don't know where you are but I just want to thank you so much for risking your lives because it was awful, it was awful out here I don't know how you did it but all the homes have been saved, We thank you, we thank you," said Lary.

All of you fire victims who need assistance from the local Red Cross chapter, you are asked to go to their office at 1800 S. Harrison at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
