Only got a few hours of sleep last night?
Imagine functioning on none and that's how these weary bike riders felt Sunday after spending 24 hours in the canyon.
"24 Hours in the Canyon is the only simultaneous 24 hour mountain bike an road bike event in the county and we raise funds to help patients diagnosed with cancer", said Event Director for "24 Hours in the Canyon", Ryan Parnell.
This great cause and extreme bike ride brought out adults, children and even cancer survivors... like Roy Vantine.
"In 2003, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer over in Germany. It was a bad time in my life. I'm over and I'm going to stay over it", says cancer survivor Roy Vantine.
A cancer survivor, avid bike rider and huge part of the fundraising for the 24 hour ride -- Vantine single-handedly raised more than $4,000!
Despite the sun, the sweat and sheer exhaustion, bikers spirits were high for the awards ceremony following the ride knowing their lack of sleep was well worth it.
"It's a challenging ride and I think it's just a good thing to do", said Vantine.
Another rider said, "It's just an experience I would tell anyone to try, to come out here and ride".
One message all riders, survivors and volunteers could agree on -- cancer doesn't sleep, so why should we?
"We can suffer through the heat for a weekend in honor and in memory and for those patients that are currently going through cancer treatment because they've got it for more than a weekend", said Parnell.
"There is a brighter future once your treatment and everything is over with, life does get better. It doesn't seem like it at the time, but it does", said Vantine.
