AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Update 3:00p
Pronews 7 has also learned that the Canyon Chamber of Commerce has made the decision to not shoot off their fireworks for the Fourth of July.

They say the Fourth of July celebration will still go on with the parade, the fair, the party at the park with a concert. A laser light show will replace the fireworks show.

Extreme fire danger is prompting the City of Amarillo and the Amarillo Globe News to cancel its Fourth of July fireworks display.

Les Simpson, Publisher of the Globe News tells Pronews 7 they and the City have decided to not launch fireworks at this year's Fourth of July Celebration at John Stiff Park.

"In working with the City, we decided the best thing to do is to not launch the fireworks at the Fourth of July celebration," Simpson said. "We are still going to have the event and in the near future, we will announce some big changes to the event."

"They are in the works and we're hoping very soon we'll be able to announce those changes," he added. "We hope people will still come out to enjoy the celebration for live music, food and good times."
