SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO (AP) -- The state Department of Transportation is sponsoring clinics across the state to help parents learn to properly use child safety seats in cars and trucks.

The clinics will be held Saturday in eight communities and are free to the public.

Certified technicians will offer advice on selecting a child safety seat and how they should be installed.

The department said motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for children ages three to 14, and that most child restraints are used improperly.

Two clinics will be held in Albuquerque. Others are scheduled in Bernalillo, Clovis, Las Cruces, Gallup, Las Vegas, Los Lunas and Santa Fe.
