Driving our roadways and texting, something that has caused accidents nation wide, so some Texas lawmakers wanted a bill banning it.

In fact, they approved the ban on texting while driving but Governor Rick Perry vetoed it.

We wanted to know what our city officials thought of Governor Perry's decision, so we spoke with Commissioner Jim Simms to find out if this will stop Amarillo from implementing the ban locally.

"It would have been easier. It would've been simpler to enforce had it been a statewide ban and I wouldn't be surprised if this commission won't consider a ban of texting and driving," said Simms.

Simms also said right now there is no timeline and it has not been set on an agenda, but since the action has been vetoed they will go back to the drawing board and discuss it as a city wide ban.
