AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An important measure was passed today by Amarillo City Commissioners that is designed to bring more jobs to Amarillo.

The item that was on their agenda was the approval of an Amarillo Economic Development Corporation job creation incentive grant.

It goes to the Dental Network of America both to increase employment and invest in training at its facility in town.

The grant will take their employment to more than 300, which Buzz David of the AEDC says will also bring more revenue to Amarillo.

"Every time we're able to add new primary jobs to the community, that has a tremendous spin off affect for everything else, it brings new retail sales, it brings new jobs that're in addition to those direct and indirect. It also brings a lot of revenue to local government but it helps keep our economy diversified and continuing to grow."

Mayor Paul Harpole was excited by the decision to approve the grant and says it's great to have the E.D.C. doing its best every day to create new opportunities.

"Its phased and we'll get some jobs each year, we'll watch it, the EDC does an excellent job, it's nice to have somebody everyday who gets up every morning and says we've got to find jobs for Amarillo. We've got to have the right people produce those jobs, so it's great."

Harpole also says this is a step in the right direction for the Amarillo economy.

"We've grown in population, 10,000 population in the last ten years, actually more than that, and we have to be able to provide jobs for those people and so we're doing that."

The approval of the job creation incentive grant, we're told, should add 129 new jobs by December 31, 2012.

Harpole described Amarillo for us as an isolated island that doesn't experience as much economic dip as some other places do.

That's why, he says we have to continue growing through job creation, and that's what the EDC does.
