AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Fireworks are banned, gas prices are up and some might be wondering what's left for the Fourth of July? A few local citizens strolling around Medi Park Sunday morning were quick to point out -- that's not what the holiday is about.
"It's a celebration of my independence, my individuality, what I fought for", says Amarillo local Terry Eubanks.
"It's also to remember our troops that fought for us and that are still fighting for us, for our freedom. That's what it means to me", says local citizen Aime Arellanes.
As proud Americans, most are still finding their own ways to celebrate.
"We're going to go over to a friends house for a cookout", says local citizen Scott Myers.
"Him and I were just talking about it, we're going to go have dinner", says Amarillo local Becky Heiss.
"We're going to go home and probably cook out and swim in the backyard", continues Arellanes.
Cookouts seem to be the popular choice but you could also have a picnic, go to the lake, check out the city's laser light show or if you wanted to ask your child, it might be simpler than all of those.
"I like to hang out and feed the ducks", adds Myers daughter, Zoe.
So no matter how you choose to do it -- celebrate -- and be proud of our red, white and blue.
