A car accident claimed the lives of two passing through the area early Sunday morning.

Texas Department of Public safety says the accident happened just after 6:00 a.m Sunday on Interstate 40 in Oldham County. Ashlie J. Johnson, 19, of Las Vegas, Nev. was traveling westbound in a 2007 Honda Fit. Also inside the vehicle was 28-year-old Forest Dayne Sharp of Norman, Okla.

As the vehicle approached a rest area about four miles west of Vega, the vehicle veered off the road. Officials say it veered off possibly due to drowsy driving.

The vehicle continued into the rest area, hitting a semi that was legally parked.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Seatbelts were in use.
