The Amarillo community of West Hills celebrated Independence Day by hosting its third annual Fourth of July parade Monday morning.
Rather than attend another festivity, the community, including parents, children and pets, came together to put on their own parade that marched throughout the neighborhood. Everyone and everything was decorated in patriotic red, white and blue. Streamers, pom-poms, hats, bandanas and more were seen throughout the parking lot at St. Peters Episcopal Church before the parade began.
Old cars, jeeps, racing lawn mowers, dirt bikes, four-wheelers and people on both bicycle and foot carried American flags and proudly waved to spectators.
Even dogs and goats wore stars and stripes around their necks.
"Our parade is great because we have more in the parade than we have watching the parade," said Amarillo City Commissioner and President of the West Hills Neighborhood Association Ellen Robertson Green. "It's just a lot of family fun, you know, kind of like the old times."
America is about patriotism, fun and community. West Hills displayed all that and more as it came together to celebrate the birthday of our nation's independence.
