PORTALES, N.M. (AP) - Portales police are waiting on a toxicology report after a man was found dead earlier this week. The body of 48-year-old James McCulley was discovered Monday night inside his girlfriend's apartment. Police aren't sure how McCulley died, but they do say his death is suspicious.

Portales Deputy Police Chief Lonnie Berry says McCulley's body was decomposing so it's not clear when McCulley died.

The Portales News-Tribune says investigators will know more once the results from toxicology and lab tests are in. Police are also interviewing people who knew McCulley, or were around him before he died.
