An Alaskan mother has been charged with child abuse after video of her using hot sauce on her 7-year-old adopted son as punishment. The video shows Jessica Beagley, 36, pouring a bottle of hot sauce into the child's mouth after he acted up at school then lied to her about it.
Beagley sent the tape to the Dr. Phil Show for a story about angry mothers, and viewers of the show were outraged and contacted authorities.
"This is cruel and unusual punishment there's no justification for it, it is abusive pure and simple", said family therapist, Terry Real.
But others disagree. Author, Lisa Whelchel defends the practice of "hot saucing" in her book 'Creative Correction'.
"I just happen to believe that I would rather my child receive a small amount of pain from my hand of love than to encounter a lot more pain in life not learning boundaries and consequences." said Whelchel.
If convicted, Beagley faces up to one year in prison.
So what do you think? Do you think what she did is child abuse and does she deserve to go to prison?
