AMARILLO, TEXAS -- An 18-year-old is now in the Potter County Correction Center after police say he attacked them after trying to hide crack cocaine in his pocket.

It all began with a traffic stop in front of a residence at 200 S. Georgia just before 8 Saturday evening. During the traffic stop, police smelled a faint scent of marijuana in the air but were unable to detect its origin.

Minutes later, police say a pizza delivery was made to a home in the area. When the door was opened, officers detected a strong smell of marijuana.

Officers then approached the home and they had to repeatedly tell the individual to keep his hands out of his pockets for fear of a weapon in his pockets.

Police then attempted to restrain the suspect. That's when the suspect began fighting with the officers. According to Police, the suspect kicked them and struck one in the jaw with his elbow.

The suspect was arrested and officers found 40 rocks of crack cocaine in his pocket.

A search warrant was executed and a bag of marijuana was found along with digital scales, police said.

18-year-old Ja'Barei Trevel Mills was arrested on two counts of Assault on a Public Servant and for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Once of the officers injured was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. He was treated and released.
